Bowed Basement Wall Symptoms
A bowing basement wall is mainly caused from excessive hydrostatic pressure in the soil surrounding a home. This occurs whenever soil around a home absorbs moisture after a heavy rainfall, or when there is melting snow on the property. The earth expands, and this can put a significant amount of pressure (hydrostatic pressure) on foundation walls. Over time, the force proves to be too much, and it will cause the wall to actually lean into the basement of the home. If left untreated for too long, the wall may actually collapse in on itself. Needless to say, this will jeopardize the structural integrity of a home and it may even make it uninhabitable.
